Dr Lason, vitamin B3 deficiency cause anxiety, depression, fatigue

by admin on July 30, 2010

For 30years, Joan Mathews Larson, PhD has been treating addiction, anxiety and depression with natural supplements in order to correct the underlying biochemical problems which cause these conditions. In this video clip, she tells how a deficiency of vitamin B3, niacinamide, can cause anxiety depression and fatigue. She also notes that vitamin B3 can eliminate a kind of alcohol psychosis that causes paranoia and feeling quarrelsome. Note: the doses of vitamin B3 used for this are several thousand milligrams, which is a much higher dose than is found in multiple vitamins. Dr. Larson also points out that anti-anxiety medicines such as Valium, Xanax, Ativan, and Librium attach to the same anti-anxiety receptors in the brain as vitamin B3. She also notes that when the patent for Valium ran out, the drug company, Hoffman LaRoche, admitted that they got the formula for Valium by trying to copy the chemical structure of vitamin B3. Imagine that. “Niacin, vitamin B3, [ later she corrects this and says what she meant was niacinamide, which is the non-flushing form of vitamin B3 ] reverses a kind of alcohol psychosis that people who have been drinking typically have, where they feel paranoid, and quarrelsome, and may even have sensory disperceptions… “Niacin [ niacinamide ] will turn that around completely. “[ People with a vitamin B3 deficiency ] may look like they are schizophrenic, but they’re not. “If you treat them… and at the end, we do all our testing again… that is

People are given 1500 mg to 3000 mg of niacin to improve cholesterol levels.

Yes, you can take too much niacin, however, it probably would not kill you.

One case report noted that a person took 11,000 mg of niacin and had to go to the hospital because they had low blood pressure that lasted for several hours.

@cjswebsite Too much serotonin can cause anxious. I’ve experienced this.

Anxiety is a common side effect with serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac, Zoloft, etc.

Here is what I think is happening. Chemicals in the brain need to be in balance.

When you drive one chemical too high (serotonin), it’s out of balance with the other chemicals.

Even though people think of serotonin as making you feel mellow, one paper noted that 5-HTP could cause stimulation a couple hours after taking it.

@cjswebsite

5-HTP can cause nausea.

I think this is due to being converted into serotonin in the gut.

Vitamin B3 (niacinamide) is involved in the conversion.

You might try taking them at different times.

Or you might try taking the 5-HTP in divided doses — 100 mg twice a day.

You might also try taking L-tryptophan rather than 5-HTP.

One therapist said that in 90% of people, tryptophan works as well as 5-HTP. In the other 10% of people, either 5-HTP or tryptophan works better.

The music is from Shawshank Redemption.

@sonicblast3

I’ve never read anything about synthetic vs natural vitamin B3.

I don’t know if niacin raises dopamine levels or not.

I’ve never read anything about this.

sonicblast3 July 30, 2010 at 4:39 am

is it ok to take syntetic vitamin b3 or is natural better? does niacin raise dopamine levels in the brain ?

Thanks for the info. I also like the music. Could you tell me the name of the piecie from 3:12 till the end please? thx

Thank God for people like Dr. Joan Larson!

Magnesium is another important nutrient that when in short supply can cause “mental health” issues like anxiety and depression.

@larryshobbs Why do you think when i take niacin amide of 250mg or greater along with my intake of 5htp of 200mg per day causes wired feelings and nauseousness, But if i take niacin amide alone like 1000mg it doesn’t do that but i begin to get angry and agitated again. I take 5htp and fish oil and vitmins because i had low serotonin and gaba i also take taurine.

The first day i stoped takeing 5htp and took like 1000mg niacinamide I was feeling very relaxed, but after that i felt i needed 5htp.

Joey,

I don’t know.

Dr. Larson does not talk about it in her book.

DJ,

Dr. Larson notes in her book that she uses anywhere from 100 mg to 3,000 mg — a wide range.

If it were me, I would start with a small dose, maybe 50 or 100 mg, taken 3 or 4 times per day — with each meal and at bedtime.

Niacin causes flushing, which many people do not like.

Niacinamide, which is also vitamin B3, does not cause flushing.

For this purpose, you will probably want to use niacinamide.

Niacin and niacinamide are very safe. I would not exceed 3000 mg.

How much Niacin should I be taking a day?
Can you overdose on Niacin?

Joey042065 July 30, 2010 at 7:14 am

I am taking 500mg/1 tab of b3 daily along with b12 and bcomplex. Can B3 help ADD suffers?

REDDAWN2010 July 30, 2010 at 7:52 am

do all the supplements, and a high impact cardio training like Karate 3 x’s week. You won’t have a choking, stabbing, or depressed feeling again. Hard CARDIO activity.

markenhagen,

I don’t know.

I would not try to guess.

If possible, I would go see Dr. Larson.

She does lab tests for everything to figure out exactly what is wrong.

Psychiatry does not do this.

markenhagen July 30, 2010 at 9:08 am

many months since a comment is on here. I have been very depressed since about 13 years old when i got my first panick attack. I have been masking the problem with alcohol and i am 33 and my depression and anxiety are at their worst. I have cut down tremendously lately and the anxiety is going down but the depression always seems to linger. But i remember even before the anxiety i always felt kind of down and tired as a boy. You think this could be a vitamin deficiency?

larryshobbs July 30, 2010 at 9:55 am

It would not let me post a direct link, but to see Daniel Amen, MD noting that “treating all depression the same invites disaster”, …

search my YouTube videos for:

“Dr Amen, treating all depression the same invites disaster”

and for:

“Dr Amen, depression is a symptom, not an single illness”

pax80a July 30, 2010 at 10:32 am

I think I’ve found one . thank you for the information.

larryshobbs July 30, 2010 at 11:19 am

Yes, there are tests you can do in order to determine exactly what is causing the problem.

Dr. Larson is big on doing lab tests.

This is one of her complaints about psychiatry — they don’t do any lab tests.

Everyone they diagnose with depression is treated the same.

But treating everyone is a mistake.

Dr. Amen says “treating everyone the same invites disaster.”

larryshobbs July 30, 2010 at 11:34 am

You might do a Google search for “portugual orthomolecular medicine” to see if you can find a doctor near you.

It’s unfortunate that doctors are unaware of natural medicine.

pax80a July 30, 2010 at 11:39 am

can you be tested for nutritional deficiencies through regular blood tests?

pax80a July 30, 2010 at 12:21 pm

yes, it’s been terrible and the problem is probably bigger than one could think. there are many sites helping people getting off these drugs , thank God.
I’m from Portugal and i think our natural doctors don’t even know these supplements exist. thank you!

larryshobbs July 30, 2010 at 12:46 pm

I’m so sorry to hear that.

Thanks for sharing the information.

I would talk to a doctor who practices natural medicine.

I imagine they can help you solve your problem of panic and depression.

It might be as simple as taking some tryptophan and some other nutrients.

You might also contact Dr. Larson via email or phone and ask her.

Here contact info is listed at the end of the video.
